Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Gran Paradiso National Park.
Nature is standing here to welcome you: flora and fauna, mountains,
moraines, seracs, the glaciers Lavassey, Fond and Tsanteleina,
streams, canyons, the hot summer sun and the unforgettable blue sky.
A hearty welcome from cross-country tracks, alpine skiing slopes,
the climbing routes in the Granta Parey mountain, the paths within
easily reach, the tracks of the Valle d'Aosta high way n. 2. Welcome
to 1723 meters.
If you follow those signs on the snow you will
probably bump into an ibex or maybe into a fox trying to camouflage
itself into the white snow. When springtime is approaching, sip some
water at the fall, observe the threes’ buds, go for a trip with the
snowshoes looking for pure snow. And if the brand new grass is
inviting you to lie down on its scented blanket, do accept the
invitation, you won’t regret it!
Rhemes-Notre-Dame: Paradise in calling you, hurry up
When driving up along the valley of omes you see that the structure of
the territory has not changed much throughout the centuries as the
new houses are located nearby the ancient village.
Rhemes-Notre-Dame
is an ideal place to breath the alpine atmosphere.
In Carre' you already have the chance to observe nature: here is the monumental
larch of Artalle and the peaceful pic-nic area named Carre'. In Bruil
you see the cooking of brown bread, the work in the dairy, the
ancient sundial.
In Chaudanne there is a mill, while in Pont are
some examples of traditional architecture. Rhemes-Notre-Dame has
plenty to offer to tourists.
Cross-country tracks and alpine skiing
slopes, a snow park all year round, mountaineering skiing,
snow-shoes trails, tracks on foot inside and outside the national
park. To be mentioned also are free climbing in Lavassey, fishing
and horse riding.
If you are not keen on sport activities, the
village will be your peaceful location, a place to observe animals
and scenery, to enjoy the silence of the countryside. The National
Park visitors center in Chanavey hosts several exhibitions and the
bearded vulture museum; it is open daily in summer, during week end
and festivities in winter.
In the restaurants you taste special
dishes, while the traditional coffee Caffè alla valdostana will warm
you up during cold winter evenings. Discover in July traditional art
and craft (last but one Sunday) by visiting the annual fair where
are gathered artisans of the whole valley.
Let’s wander through a
rich heritage made of several chapels and the Parish Church with its
beautiful high altar, the pulpit and the christening font. Rhemes-Notre-Dame
is also a good location for families with children.
The medium size stocky marmot is the biggest rodent living in Valle d'Aosta. Her personal whistle is the alarm call which identify the
animal. Marmots are herbivorous, they eat mainly grass und roots.
They eat each day throughout the summer, which is necessary to
survive the long winter's hibernation. Marmots build extensive
networks of entrances and tunnels to the various lodges where they
spend their nights, their winter hibernation and where they give
birth. Marmot predators are eagles and foxes.

Loc. Barmaverain, Pelaud, Carre'
The chapel of
Barmaverain was built in 1644 in Saint Pantaleone’s honor.
Today it is almost destroyed.
The first chapel of the little village of Pelaud was built
in 1645-1649 on the left side of the river. Destroyed by a
flooding in 1868, it was rebuilt the year after on the other
side of the river, nearby the village. It is dedicated to
San Fabiano and San Sebastian.
The most ancient chapel is this of Carre', built in 1620. The
edifice we see today is the result of many recasts of the
19th century. It is dedicated to Saint Ann.

The territory
of Rhemes-Notre-Dame once a time was annexed to Rhemes-Saint-Georges.
It was transformed into parish only in 1650. The church,
erected in 1680 and enlarged in 1839, has a beautiful high
altar of the 18th century in polychrome marble.
