Malaspina Castle - Lusuolo Mulazzo (MS)
The castle dates back to the late Middle Age
and was erected to defend the town and the important communications
routes: in fact it dominates the site of the Chiesaccia where there was
a ford until the beginning of the 20th century
Practically nothing remains of the original fortalice, as it was
destroyed in the 15th century.
The current complex, the result of a 17th century rebuilding,
stands around a trapezoidal courtyard with a central well overlooked by
buildings erected at various times. The restoration work was done over
several years, and eventually the castle will house the Museum of the
Emigration of Tuscan people

The Museum will pay tribute to those who left the region looking for new
opportunities: photographs, letters, evidences, on two level:
1. a physical place (with sectors for the exhibitions and the collections, archives, and a
library, a multimedia hall for debates and meetings)
2. a virtual place, with a computerized database and an Internet web site through which you
can visit and consulti t remotely.
